ANNOUNCING: FORKS & CORKS 2008
Tuesday, 05 August 2008

The West Allis / West Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the return of Forks & Corks at the West Allis Farmer’s Market. This is the third year of this premier event. We welcome the return of some great restaurant vendors including Antigua Latin Restaurant, the Painted Parrot, and West Allis Cheese and Sausage. Once again Golden Harvest Distributing will be supplying us with a plentiful variety of wines and Opan Ji will grace our ears with their beautiful music.

Not only is this one of our most fun and favorite events, it is also a very important one. This event brings in a crowd of people, not just from West Allis and West Milwaukee, but from all over the Metro Milwaukee area. That is why it is very important for all of our members to be there showing support for our Chamber. This year, with the same feel, but a new image, this event is sure to be a hit. For those of you that may be unfamiliar with the event, Forks & Corks is a large scale wine tasting and food sampling of all of our local restaurants. There is also live music and beautiful art pieces on display.

This year promises to be the best ever with great raffle prizes, including a trip for two to Mario Andretti’s Winery in California. Valorie Schleicher, a professional artist, will be organizing our art exhibit with a museum quality feel. In the weeks prior to the event, you will hear and see plenty of public advertising for this event, so it will be a good chance for you to talk about your business to many people. Tickets are currently available through the Chamber. Please fill out the registration form on page 4 of the current newsletter or download it below and send it in via fax, email, or mail. If you would like more information on this event, please contact the Chamber at anytime.

Hope to see you in September! Click here for a registration form

GANGSTER GOLF CLASSIC 2008
Tuesday, 05 August 2008

Pewaukee, WI - The Chamber’s annual golf outing was a hit this year. Wednesday, July 16th was a beautiful day at Western Lakes Golf Course in Pewaukee. We had over 100 golfers and many more joined us for dinner.  Once again Western Lakes Golf Course has beaten par as a host for our event. We would like thank Majdecki’s Sentry and LifeTime Credit Union, without whom this event could not be possible. We would also like to thank the Village at Manor Park, Affeldt Law Offices, Maritime Mortgage, Larson Engineering, Meadowmere/Mitchell Manor, West Allis Heating and A/C and M&I Bank for their participation. Finally we would like to thank our committee and volunteers. This years golf committee was chaired by Ken Widenski, Village at Manor Park, and Kevin Donnelly. Other members include Diane Brandt,  Steve Affeldt, Jon Armstrong, Matt Christianson, Greg Essig, Don Falk, Tim Klare, Jason Rockenfield, and Mary Steinbreener. Our Volunteers at this event were Joanie Luedke, Joyce Marusinec, Natasha Rossa, Kathryn Devillers, Steve Lampone, Sue Zwitter, Karen Jasnewski, Neville Spanaus, Julie Spanaus, Joe Siehr, Michael Wogoman, Dianne Kempen, and Gordy Anderson. Due to the terrific storms earlier this year, we did have to cancel the cruise portion of this event as large watercraft are still not allowed on Pewaukee Lake. We are hoping to bring this back for our non-golfers next year.

Please find some of the pictures taken at this event on page 6 of this newsletter. We will be updating our shutterfly page with the remaining pictures very soon. www.wawmchamber.shutterfly.com

Message from the Executive Director
Tuesday, 05 August 2008

Dear Members,

One of the roles of your chamber is to serve as an information center.  The information we gather and communicate can affect your business, employees, families and friends.  We communicate in many different ways.  Our newsletter is issued bi-monthly, we e-mail blast information to members on a near weekly basis.  We have a web site that we are working hard to get and keep updated.  Our office has an “open door” policy and we invite members and other clubs and organizations to leave information for each other and the public.  In our newsletter we have a new section, “Member and Community News, Updates and Events”.  I also want to encourage you to share information with your family and with your business associates.  Membership dues is based upon number of full time employees, why not give them the opportunity to be informed and active in the chamber and the community?

We have two structured networking events on a monthly basis called A.B.L.E., Active Business Leads Exchange.  There is information on the dates and times in this newsletter on page 7.  For additional information on the event please call us.  We have monthly Business After Five’s with two exciting events coming up August 14th at Landmark and September 27th at Floorco; they are social networking events that are in the evening, usually 5-7pm.  These events are hosted by Chamber members and allow you a chance to welcome other members into your business.  If you would like to be a host in 2009, please contact us now.

We have many well-priced advertising opportunities for you.  A member benefit is one free set of mailing labels per year.  Members can advertise in our newsletter for a reasonable cost. Business card-sized, full-color half page, full-page or a flyer insertions ranging from $50 to $150. We also need sponsors for our many events. We make it a priority to make your contributions worth for you.

These are just a few of your Member Benefits.  We are open to new suggestions and ideas from members.  Please call or stop in anytime.

Diane Brandt, Executive Director
WAWM Chamber of Commerce
