BUSINESS ALERT FROM THE WEST ALLIS POLICE DEPT. PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 February 2007
Recently four West Allis Businesses were victims of robbery, three of them involving employees leaving their businesses with the day’s receipts in a marked bank bag.

Robbery Prevention Tips:
Change the time of the bank drop, so there is no set pattern.
Never leave the business with a bank bag out in the open.  Place the bag in a briefcase, paper bag, box, etc.
Be aware of your surroundings before you leave the building.
Leave the business with someone.

Tips for Preventing a Business Burglary:
  • Leave on plenty of interior & exterior lights, increasing visibility inside business and near entrances.
  • Be sure the door frames cannot easily be jimmied or use security laminate on glass doors.
  • Install a quality security system and post decals around the building in plain sight.
  • Use deadbolts and be sure to change the locks every time an employee with access to them leaves.
  • Keep your expensive merchandise away from the windows, toward the center of your business.
  • Keep front windows free from posters, etc. which can prevent a burglar inside from being seen.
  • Eliminate hiding places.  Keep shrubs trimmed below window sills and low around entrances.
  • Use security shrubs or plants with prickly leaves or thorns to act as a natural barrier.
  • Install and use a drop safe.  Limit the amount of cash in the register and post signs indicating that a drop safe is used and register only has limited cash.
