To assist people who wish to start or expand their small businesses, especially businesses currently in or with the potential to be located in West Allis/West Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) will hold regular office hours from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Chamber. Beginning June 7, 2007 and every first Thursday of the month in 2007, a business loan officer from WWBIC will be at the Chamber to consult with small business owners or potential entrepreneurs about business loan financing options, as well as other resources WWBIC offers to start-up or emerging businesses. These office hours will be staffed by Laura Gille, a Senior Loan Officer at WWBIC. WWBIC is a not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to provide access to capital, business assistance, and business education to help people start and expand businesses. While WWBIC’s target market continues to be women, people of color, and low income individuals, WWBIC works with anyone….. women and men….. of all racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. Ms. Gille said, “People seek out WWBIC most often when they have been turned down for business financing by a traditional financial institution such as a bank or savings and loan. Even in those cases where WWBIC is not able to provide financing, we can refer people to our broad array of business and personal finance education classes to help them improve their business plans and personal credit so they might come back to us at some point in the future and possibly qualify for financing. We like to say: “Don’t say “No!” Say “WWBIC”! “WWBIC has a very strong relationship with the City of West Allis through their Department of Economic Development, and in fact, we are their agent to underwrite and present loans to them under their block grant program. We are also a member of the West Allis/West Milwaukee Chamber. So, we believe holding office hours right at the Chamber is the perfect way to support the economic development efforts of both the City of West Allis and the Chamber.” Office hours will run from 9-11:30 a.m. followed by a Business Investigation (Bring Your Own Brown Bag) Lunch starting at 11:30 a.m. During the 9-11:30 a.m. period, Ms. Gille will consult one-on-one with existing or potential business owners about their business plans or business financing options. Walk-ins are welcome, but to ensure availability, we suggest you schedule an appointment by calling WWBIC’s Milwaukee office at 414-263-5450 via their receptionist, Farasha Mills. Make sure to mention you wish to schedule time at the West Allis/West Milwaukee Chamber, not at WWBIC’s office. Appointments will be available in 45-minute time blocks from 9-9:45 a.m., 9:50-10:35 a.m., and 10:40-11:25 a.m. The Business Investigation Lunch, starting at 11:30 a.m., will be a small group, open-forum exchange of ideas and discussion of financing options and business strategies. No RSVP is necessary (but don’t forget to bring your own brown bag lunch!). If you have questions about the Chamber office hours, please call Laura Gille at WWBIC at 414-263-5450 X123. |
