The West Allis Charities, Inc. has joined forces with community organizations to host MO2 Dinner and Casino Night, Saturday, Oct. 27, to benefit a local mother (MO2) fighting cancer. MO2 has been undergoing extensive medical treatment, including chemotherapy and medications - up to 20 pills per day - in order to shrink the inoperable tumors in her pituitary gland and throat. She also suffers from diabetes, chronic asthma, bi-polar disorder, depression, dyslexia and experiences severe panic attacks. Unable to work, even household tasks and tending to her two children can be overwhelming with her illness. Her needs have been secondary to her children, and it may mean she does not refill some of her medications. Though her children may look at act like normal teenagers, they too have medical conditions. Her son suffers from Chronic Gastro Reflex disease and environmental allergies, and has been tube fed for most of his life. For years he was confined to a wheelchair. Through therapy, he was able to graduate to an adult stroller chair. MO2's daughter, 16, has Auto Immune Hepatitis, in which the immune system attacks her liver believing it is a foreign body. Daily medication assists in controlling attacks. She is currently in therapy to help deal with her adult responsibilities and cope with her mother's illness. "We are a close family, who is working together," notes MO2. "I would like my kids to be kids, but sometimes we need a little more love and prayers." The West Allis Charities is putting forth its best effort to help the MO2 family by hosting MO2 Dinner and Casino Night of Entertainment beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Knights of Columbus, 104th & Oklahoma Avenue in West Allis. Cost is $35 per person. The evening includes a buffet dinner, door prizes, raffles, casino gaming, music and entertainment. Seating is limited. All proceeds from the event will benefit the health and daily needs of the MO2 family. Music and entertainment, door prizes, monetary donations and gift certificates are needed. Community contributions and support for the event will ensure its success and lessen the burden and hardship for the MO2 family.
