Best of the West Dining Week Great Success!Thank you to all restaurants and diners that participated in our first "Best of the West Dining Week!!" I am pleased that so many of you made patronizing the participating restaurants a priority. Thanks also to those that took the time to fill out survey cards. We collected 651 cards from the 17 participating restaurants. All restaurants reported a noticeable increase in business during the week. 30% of survey respondents tried a restaurant they’d never been before, and 78% of respondents tried the dining week special. 99% of attendees said that they would visit that restaurant again. Two lucky diners were drawn at random and received almost $700.00 in gift certificates to the restaurants! We are very pleased with the response and feedback. Look for another Dining week in the future! Of course, if you have suggestions on how to make the event better -- please let us know. WAWM Chamber brings on Membership Director I am also pleased to announce that Michael Wogoman, a Public Administration Master's student at UWM is joining our team! Michael will focus on growth and retention of membership. Look for Michael at upcoming Chamber events and please welcome him. Now is a good time to remind all members to refer potential Chamber members to Michael. Should the business join our Chamber, we will recognize you in our newsletter and discount next year's membership! Chamber partnering with area non-profits to launch new events One of the goals of our Chamber is to work with other local organizations to showcase our community and businesses. To that end, the Chamber is working on two upcoming events. The first is a fundraising event for a local family that will be sponsored by the West Allis Charities on October 27 at the Knights of Columbus on Oklahoma. (See p. 4 for more details). The Chamber is providing event planning consulting as well as volunteers for the event. Additionally, we invited the West Allis Knights of Columbus to help with casino games. The second event that we are working on is a retooling of two annual Christmas events -- the West Allis Christmas Parade and the Holiday Stroll. Through our efforts, the West Allis Charities, Downtown BID, Chamber and the City are working together to pull off an all-day family fun-filled "old fashioned" Christmas celebration. The newly-named "Christmas on the Avenue" will occur on Saturday December 1 and kick-off with the Parade sponsored by Wauwatosa Savings Bank. The event will offer Breakfast with Santa at Doyle's Milwaukee Inn. After the parade along Greenfield Avenue, families will have a plethora of activities to choose from. At the end of the afternoon, we'll all make our way to City Hall's Centennial Plaza to sing carols, light the tree and dedicate the Plaza. We need you in our Menu & Services Guide! Just this week I received requests from organizers of three shows that will be held at the State Fair grounds. They are looking to give to their vendors information on places to patronize in our community while they are here working shows. Additionally, we have a large company in our community looking for a guide to give to their employees. We have come up with a professional answer to those requests -- a Menu & Service Guide. Last year, we printed 3,000 copies that included actual menus from restaurants, spas, salons and taverns as well as advertisements from consumer retail/ service companies. The price is reasonable (see p. 6 for details). Please help us to drive traffic to your business by advertising in the Guide. Thank you to those that have already reserved their spot. We look forward to wrapping up this project and getting your information into the hands of those looking to patronize our businesses.
