ImageI thought it might be fun this month to share some "Chamber Trivia"  with you that you might not know or may have forgotten about.

History
Did you know that the West Allis Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1958?  That means in 2008 it will be 50 years old!!  Don't worry, I am already thinking of ways to celebrate!  At the end of 2004, the Chamber grew to represent both West Allis and West Milwaukee or, as I like to think, the Best of the Wests!

When the Chamber formed, there were 162 Charter Members.  Today, the following Charter Members continue to belong to and support our Chamber:

    * Chris Hansen Laboratory, Inc.
    * Majdecki Super Foods   (Majdecki Sentry Foods)
    * Schaff Funeral Service, Inc. (Schaff Funeral Home)
    * Shallow Jeweler
    * Tanner-Paull Restaurant & Bar
    * West Allis Borgwardt Funeral Home  (John G. Borgwardt Funeral Home)

Thanks for your years of Loyalty and Service!

Partnerships and Network Building Services
Did you know that our Chamber and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin are partners?  What that means to you is that you can take advantage of programming/events put on by the Hispanic Chamber at their member rates!  Both Chambers advertise each other's programming to our memberships.  What a great way to build your business network!

Did you know that your Chamber formed the Young Professionals of Suburban Milwaukee (YPSM) in January, 2006  an organization that ‘s vision is to Engage and connect young thinkers to network, socialize, and expand their professional horizons?   YPSM is now a separate organization that we continue to help grow.  What value does this organization present to your business?  Talent attraction and retention to our region which translates into business and economic growth and strength for the future.

Did you know that your Chamber is a partner in the Inventors & Entrepreneurs Forum of Greater Milwaukee?

Did you know that A.B.L.E. turned 10 this year?  That's right, 10 years of bi-weekly networking breakfasts brought to you by the joint efforts of the Brookfield, West Allis/West Milwaukee, and West Suburban Chambers of Commerce.  If you haven't been before, you should really come check it out.

Opportunities to Give back to the Community
Did you know that the Chamber formed an Education Foundation for the purpose of recognizing and rewarding innovative educational programs as well as providing grants for higher education?  The Education Foundation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation in 1993 and continues today to give back to our community.  Watch for new offerings from this group in 2007!

Did you know that every year, the Chamber hosts a Holiday Charity Party, the exclusive purpose of which is to raise funds to purchase gift and food cards for our needy children and seniors and their families?  Last year we raised approximately $3000.00 and which allowed us to touch the lives of 125 families and 195 individuals in our community.  This year, with YPSM's help, we hope to raise more.  Won't you come and help?

Did you know that your Chamber helped the Red Cross and survivors of Hurricane Katrina that were housed in the Tommy Thompson Center by bringing in much needed office equipment, furniture, and clothing?

Did you know that many times throughout each year, your Chamber helps hundreds of people find you?  Our staff of 2 plus our volunteers field thousands of calls per year, many of those inquiring about businesses in the community, or places to stay, visit, and eat. In addition, we send information to many people that are relocating to our area.

Did you know that there are only about sixty days left until 2007?  While that thought sent a shiver through my brain (the holidays, the relatives, the work!) I am looking forward to a great year for the Chamber in 2007, particularly our new take on our Gala event...  Just a few ‘teasers' for you: Rat Pack.  Vegas.  Casino.  And on that note, I'll just say "Good night, everybody!"
