Image  2006 was a great year for our communities, our businesses and your Chamber.  In West Allis, we saw the first season of the new Milwaukee Mile, the first Forks & Corks, the ground breaking for two major east-side commercial/residential developments and the continued growth of Summit Place.  In West Milwaukee, we saw continued commercial redevelopment and revitalization of Miller Parkway.  Both of our communities celebrated their 100th anniversaries.  Your Chamber continues to grow and develop new programs to promote our businesses and communities.

Membership
In 2006, the Chamber welcomed 40 new members.  In 2007, we will welcome Jerry Falk as our Membership Director.  As our Chamber continues to grow, we recognize the need to not only attract, but retain members.  Jerry will be a valuable addition to our Chamber due to his previous sales career, longtime membership in various civic organizations and overall commitment to our business community’s continued growth.

Fundraisers
In 2006, the Chamber added value to its existing events and created a successful new event to make its fundraising efforts.  The Chamber will continue to find ways to better existing events and create new events that will showcase our communities and promote business ad economic development in the future.

Senate Candidate Forum
This past fall, our Legislative Committee hosted a candidate forum for the contested State Senate race.  In 2007, this Committee plans to offer more opportunities for our members to meet informally with the legislators for our communities.

Paid Internship Program

During the summer of 2006, the Chamber began a paid internship program which provides valuable work experience to students as they pursue their education.  We intend to expand this program so as to touch the lives of as many students as possible.

Forks & Corks

In an effort to raise awareness for our wonderful restaurants and arts community, the Chamber hosted an evening of food, wine, and beer samplings, arts offerings and live jazz.  The event was a huge success due in large part to the commitment by our restaurants and other vendors.  This event truly continues to showcase West Allis to the greater metropolitan Milwaukee region.

Young Professionals of Suburban Milwaukee
This new organization began in January 2006, and throughout the year, offered social opportunities for younger professionals to meet, socialize, network, and offer reasons for this demographic to stay in our region.   The Chamber remains committed to fostering this organization’s growth.
